Did you ever wonder if majoring in fashion was
for you? Then this series is the series for you!
In my first post of a day in the life, grad
school wasn’t so bad. I had a million snow days and a million opportunities at
my finger-tips. It’s still the same, but
this time the snow is really causing a problem. All projects are behind and not
to mention lost class time. The thing with any college is that snow days don’t
get made up and professors have to scramble to catch up. My one class, as I
mentioned, we are working with Majestic (the jersey company). Now this is
awesome expect for one problem. We have no idea who the industrial design
students are in our group. There’s always that one student who thinks they’re
all that and a bag of chips that needs everything done their way. How are we
supposed to come up with a better product when we are just the ones who can
come up with ideas and have no clue how the mechanics of everything works? In that same
class, we have to make a piece of jewelry using a 3D Printer. Cool right? NOT!
They don’t even teach us how to use it, we kind of have to rely on the help of
other hoping and praying they have the time to help us.
Besides all of that, grad school has been a
piece of cake. My grades have been fabulous because they are nothing but
papers. At the end of the day, if you are kick ass at writing papers then Grad
School would be a piece of cake ;)
I even have a great group for my product
development class and a great group for my technology in fashion class (minus
the project with the undergrads). And
reading fashion blogs and WWD are considered homework! I mean what more could a
girl want?!
Here are some tips for surviving any kind of
fashion school:
·
Know the latest trends and
keep with trade publications like WWD
·
Read fashion blogs
·
Keep up with the new and
upcoming brands
·
Always support the little
people
·
Stay on top of your readings
and assignments
·
Don’t take on my than you can
chew
·
And lastly, you don’t have to
dress like a fashionista everyday to class. You just look dumb. You’re only
going to class, ditch the heels, they’re fine for every now and then but
everyday is just a little much.
So, if you want fashion to be your dream, go
for it! If I can do it while working part time at Edible Arrangements, running
my own Etsy shop, running a website and having a boyfriend, well, anyone can do
it!
